You don’t have to run a major corporation or appear on the cover of People magazine to own your power. That kind of strength comes from within. You are a badass. You are worthy of respect. You are worthy of admiration. You are worthy of love.
So, the next time you look in the mirror or walk into a room, let your confidence shine, straighten that invisible crown on your head, and embrace your power. Because to own your power is to make #QueenMovesOnly.
Let’s Talk About What It Means To Own Your Power
Owning your power is about finding your strength and your confidence. It’s about making wise decisions that contribute to your growth. It’s about setting a plan, determining your next moves, and implementing your ideas. A true queen is never stagnant.
Fads and trends (and even people!) come and go. Do you know who will always be with you? YOU. So treat yourself like the classic queen you are. Be a boss and take action with inspiration, purpose, intention, and strategy, and you’ll be making queen moves only.
As a self-made royalty, you have to set rules for yourself and for others on how they interact with you. These rules will help you hold yourself and others to a certain standard. It will protect you from ever being victimized. This doesn’t just give you power, it helps you own that power.
Queens uplift other queens. They raise queens. They raise kings. They raise the world. They elevate everything. When you’re making queen moves only, you’re helping transform humanity for the better. The crucial key to accomplishing your goals is to ensure that your team is aligned with your mission. Part of that mission is to invest in other people, in other businesses, and above all, in yourself. Own your power, be the strongest version of YOU, and be unapologetic in all that you do.
3 Ways to Own Your Power
1. Follow Your Path
A true queen does not follow in the footsteps of others. Because the path to success for each person is unique. A true queen blazes their own trail, breaks down barriers, and sometimes changes the course of history – like Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
As a former student body president and a national speech/debate star in high school, Justice Jackson’s school counselor told her that her dream of applying to Harvard was setting her sights too high. Did that stop her? No.
She forged ahead and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, then attended Harvard Law School, where she graduated cum laude. Since then, she’s built a successful legal career for herself that has culminated in the position as the first Black woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. Justice Jackson’s journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been worth it.
2. Make an Impact
Owning your power is about taking action. Little pebbles make big waves, and you are no exception. Like Kwanza Jones, use your power to leave the world a better place than you found it.
When she saw representation gaps at Princeton University, she stood up to the challenge. Kwanza used love to conquer hate by standing up against racism and advocating for justice.
She took action with her partner in business and life and made a $20 million donation that will support a 500-Student Undergraduate expansion in Princeton.
What a way to own your power!
You don’t need money to change the world. You can use your voice to stand up for the weak and be heard. You can also use your time and energy to boost and mentor others. In fact, here are 7 more ways you can be of service.
Bring Others with You
As you follow your own path and make an impact, you’ll gain more momentum and your power will be amplified if you bring others with you on your mission.
LaTosha Brown is a great example.
She empowers people, enabling them to build power and wealth for themselves and their community.
In 2016, she co-founded the Black Voters Matter to increase power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities.
Even now, LaTosha is leading several international efforts to provide training, support, and funding for women-led institutions.
Giving a boost to others is a great way to own your power. Because that's what queens do. They elevate everything.
Get Inspired to Own Your Power
You have what it takes to own your power. Don’t doubt it. Just believe it. The next time you step into a room, walk as if there's a crown on your head. Because you are more than fierce. You are vicious. You are strong enough. You are smart enough. You are bold enough. You are a queen!
